Involuntary Murder Charges Filed

PRESS RELEASE On 10-30-2009, Detectives from the Alliance Police Department Criminal Investigations Unit and officers from the patrol division arrested Misty Goodwin 22, and Lori Osterland, 40 on warrants issued through the Alliance Municipal Court. Both women were charged with one count of Involuntary Manslaughter (F-3) and one count of Furnishing Liquor to an Underage Person (M-1). The arrests were the result of an investigation led by Det. Don Wensel into the death of Carri Goodwin 20, whose body was discovered in the back seat of a vehicle in the early morning of February 28,2009 in the 200 blk of E. Main St. The coroner’s report ruled that Carri Goodwin’s cause of death was Acute Alcohol Intoxication and Hypothermia. Det. Wensel learned through his investigation that Misty Goodwin and Lori Osterland allegedly furnished the alcohol that ultimately caused Carri’s death. In addition, Misty and Lori left an unconscious Carri in the back seat of the vehicle while they patronized the Town Tavern Bar on E. Main St. The outside temperature was 23 degrees. Both women were processed and later taken to the Stark Co Jail after failing to post a 26,000.00 bond. They will be arraigned on Monday, November 02, 2009 in the Alliance Municipal Court in front of Judge Robert Lavery.
