Oz

RETIRED

K-9 OZ is a Belgian Malinois.  He joined the Alliance Police Department in 2005. OZ was donated to the Alliance Police Department by the Lawrence Twp. Police Dept. K9 OZ replaced K9 Kai. His handler was Officer Paul Vesco. OZ was trained in narcotic detection and also had a list of skills that included tracking persons, building and area searches for persons, evidence searches, criminal apprehension, and officer protection. He performed drug detection and patrol functions as part of the midnight shift.  He was always on call to assist other shifts and APD divisions, and was often called on by other agencies to assist them.

OZ’s favorite duty was narcotic detection. K9 OZ located narcotics in various hiding spots resulting in many arrests and asset forfeitures. K9 OZ worked well with K9 Zeus. Together they conducted drug searches of residences, vehicles and schools.

OZ was the first place winner in a state wide held canine competition. He was graded in narcotic detection, criminal apprehension, tracking, obedience, article search and area search. His combined scored placed him in first place over all. K9 OZ was a very dedicated and loyal K9. He was very protective especially of his stuffed bunny rabbit.

OZ retired from the Alliance Police Department in May 2007. He was replaced by K9 Nash.
